Forecourt lawns and gardens

Official visits and family recreation

The Perth Mint

The grandeur of The Perth Mint building is enhanced by its set back from the street and is complemented by beautiful lawns and garden beds in the Forecourt.

Roses have always bloomed around the Forecourt perimeter. Deputy Master Hugh Corbet, was an avid gardener, and took pride in pruning the roses himself when he lived on site.

The Perth Mint was a much-loved residence for the families of the two senior officers, the Deputy Master and Superintendant, until the late 1970s. The lawns provided space to play, exercise pets and entertain friends. Robert Cook, son of Deputy Master Charles Cook, recalls once hitting a ball through the window of his father's office while playing cricket with his brother!

On important occasions, the Forecourt is used host to large gatherings. In 1901 the mint was adorned with bunting for the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York.

In 2025, the Forecourt was the site of festivities celebrating The Perth Mint's 125th anniversary.
