Newmont's Normandy Nugget
The largest surviving gold nugget in Australia.

In addition to being the largest surviving gold nugget in Australia, Newmont's Normandy Nugget is the second largest surviving gold nugget in the world!
The 25.5 kilogram nugget was discovered in 1995 in a dry creek bed near Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Normandy Mining, now part of Newmont Australia, purchased the nugget in 2000 when, due to the nugget's cultural significance, the Commonwealth Government prevented attempts by its finder to sell it overseas.
Newmont's Normandy Nugget ranks as the 23rd largest nugget ever found in the world and 21st largest ever found in Australia. Nuggets found in Australia are more numerous and much larger than elsewhere due to unusual geological conditions.
