Blessing of the Fleet costumes

These costumes are worn by children during Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies and feature costumes from the Molfetta and Sicilian regions.

The Blessing of the Fleet was first introduced to Fremantle by Italian migrant fisherman in 1948. Since then it has been an annual event; a celebration of fishing traditions and community, honouring its local fishers.

These costumes are worn by children during the Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies and are a Molfetta and a Sicilian regional costume.

Once this event was only celebrated by fishers. Now the general population joins the Blessing of the Fleet and the day’s spectacular events.
