Milk Carton

There was widespread celebration in Australia and commemorative badging appeared everywhere. This milk carton, from Master’s Dairy, is typical of the ephemera which was produced at the time. That, however, is just one of literally hundreds of examples of the use of the America’s Cup Brand to create souvenir items and commemorate Australia II’s victory. There were the standard items, such as lapel badges, baseball caps and T shirts, but there were plenty of other things as well. Australia Post produced a set of commemorative postage stamps and you could buy personalised number plates for your car with the motto ‘WA, Home of the America’s Cup’ on them. Probably the most recognisable, and enduring, was the syndicate’s mascot, the red-gloved, golden boxing kangaroo. The image, now owned by the Australian Olympic Committee, is recognised all around the world.
