Melting House

Witness a live gold pour in our original 1899 Melting House.

For 91 years all the gold received at The Perth Mint was melted down in this Melting House. In the 1980s we began to receive more gold than we had room to process in our 1899 facility, so we built a new refinery near Perth airport, which opened in 1990.

Our original Melting House continues to be used for our gold pour demonstrations. Visitors watch as 4.2 kilograms of pure gold is heated to 1,200°C before being cast into a solid gold bar!
